President Hakainde Hichilema has commissioned the K130 million Kalene Hills Fruits Company, the plant will process a variety of fruits and other farm produce such as beans, groundnuts and tomatoes using small scale farmers as suppliers.
The President has since called on the people of North-Western Province to increase agricultural production to sustain its operations.
Formerly known as Mwinilunga Cannery, Kalene Hills Fruits Company was closed in the 1990s because of operational challenges, but the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has invested over K100 million to revamp its operations.
