A MAN of Nsama District of Northern Province is drowning in his own tears of sorrow after losing his wife and seven children through a fire that swept through his house while he was out fishing.
In his absence, Richard Musonda’s family went to sleep in their grass-thatched with a brazier to provide some warmth through the night.
However, the fire from the brazier started spreading throughout the house leaving no room for escape till every one was burnt to ashes.
Following the incident the neighbours phoned Musonda and told him that his wife and his seven children were killed in the fire.
Among the seven children the youngest was two years old while the the oldest was 18.
Musonda later reported the incident to Kaputa Police Station the following day.
The police confirmed the incident stating it occurred on August 7, 2022 at around 22:00 hours in Katwatwa Village.
Zambian Police Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the bodies were found burnt to ashes at the scene of the incident.
Hamoonga disclosed that the bodies have been deposited at the hospital awaiting for postmortem and burial.
The names of the deceased include Musonda’s wife Edith Kalembwe aged 31, Evans Katali, Joseph Manda, Jackson Matuta, Richard Musonda, Maggie Chola, Janipher Mwape and Abigail Chansa.
