(ZNBC) Zambia has detected polio in a sewer pond in Kitwe’s Mindolo Township.

Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says samples from the sewer pond which were collected last month have tested positive for polio.

Ms. Masebo however says there is no confirmed case of polio on humans but that the country must be vigilant.

She says the presence of polio in fecal matter should be of concern because it can easily spread to humans.

Ms. Masebo says government will prepare for mass vaccination to prevent spread of polio.

Zambia last recorded a case of polio in 1995
