May 21, 2023 – The Police Anti-Robbery Flying Squad yesterday, May 20, 2023 around 13:00 hours received a report of aggravated robbery through Matero Police station in which two unknown male persons who were armed with a knife and a Pistol attacked a man aged 48 of Barastone Park and and stole his motor vehicle, a Toyota Vitz bearing registration number BBC 4163 purple in colour.The description given was exactly that of two suspects who on the same day around 06:30 hours attacked a named man in his shop in Ten Miles area where money amounting to K6,900 and a cellular phone was stolen at gunpoint. Members of the public alleged that the suspects were seen jumping into a Flash minibus which was heading towards SOS area along the Great North Road.Same day, May 20, 2021 around 14:30 hours, the Anti-Robbery Flying Squad officers received intelligence information from an informer that there were two men in Garden Park area who were in possession of a motor vehicle suspected to have been stolen.Acting on the information, officers rushed to the place where the vehicle was found parked in one of the yards without a gate. When officers moved in, two persons who were found with the car immediately attempted to challenge the officers and in the process they were shot at and sustained gunshot wounds.They were rushed to the University Teaching Hospitals where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.Police recovered the Toyota Vitz which had its original number plate removed. Upon searching the car, a Pistol, a knife and a pair of folded number plates were found.The two unidentified bodies were deposited in the same Hospital mortuary awaiting formal identification and post-mortem.The complainant has positively identified the recovered motor vehicle.Danny MwaleDeputy Police Public Relations Officer
