The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board has awarded loans to 1,403 eligible first year students at Mulungushi University for the 2023/2024 academic year.

HELSB received 4,496 applications for sponsorship at Mulungushi University, out of which 4,296 applicants were eligible.

HELSB Senior Corporate Communications Officer, Choselwa Kawanda says 200 were ineligible for Sponsorship, representing 95.6 percent and 4.4 percent, respectively.

Ms Kawanda told ZNBC News that the ineligible applications are as a result of applicants completing Grade 12 before 2019, non-attachment of required documents to the student loan applications and applicants being older than 24 years of age.

She said HELSB received 14 applications from students living with disabilities, 10 male and 4 female, representing 0.3 percent of the total applicants.

Ms Kawanda said all the 14 have been awarded Scholarships.

She said that out of the 4,496 applicants, 2,105 are from rural areas and 2,391 are from urban areas.
