A 17-year-old girl from Chadiza, Eastern Province, tragically lost her life after suffocating from fumes emitted by a running power generator.

Evelyn Lungu, from Kalandila village in Chief Mlolo’s area, was visiting her boyfriend when the incident occurred. The boyfriend, who survived, was rushed to Chadiza District Hospital.

The couple had locked themselves inside a two-room house, listening to music powered by the generator.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, which took place yesterday around 16:00 hours.

Mr. Mweemba explained that preliminary investigations show the couple fell asleep while listening to music and became unconscious from the fumes.

Neighbors discovered them and rushed them to the hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead.
