MINISTRY of Youth Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Mr Kangwa Chileshe led a delegation of senior officials from the Department of Sport at the Ministry Head quarters in conducting an inspection tour of the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola this morning.

The inspection was crucial in ensuring the stadium’s readiness to host international football matches, particularly the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Levy Mwanawasa stadium has undergone renovations, with the government spending K3 million to upgrade the facilities, including the dressing rooms and the technical area.

The Permanent Secretary’s inspection was also vital to address concerns raised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), which had declared the stadium unfit for international matches due to its poor state. The inspection aimed at assessing the progress of the renovations and ensuring that the stadium meets the required international standards.

Furthermore, the inspection demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading sports infrastructure in Zambia, which is essential for promoting sports development and youth empowerment in the country.

Rehabilitation works on national stadia in Zambia are ongoing and planned to upgrade the infrastructure and facilities.

The rehabilitation works on these national stadia aim to improve the quality of sports infrastructure in Zambia, enhance the spectator experience, and provide better facilities for athletes and sports teams.
