Police in Lusaka have launched an investigation into a suspected murder case after a burnt body was discovered inside a vehicle along Sheki-Sheki Road in Emmasdale on Tuesday night.

The discovery was reported to police by Issah Ahmed, a 27-year-old resident of Villa Elizabetha, at around 21:10 hours. According to police, Ahmed was alerted about the burning vehicle by John Nkata, a 26-year-old neighborhood watch member in Emmasdale, who called him at about 19:30 hours.

Upon arriving at the scene, Ahmed found a vehicle engulfed in flames with a person trapped inside. Together with some neighbors, he managed to extinguish the fire before notifying the police.

When officers visited the scene, they found the deceased in the driver’s seat, burnt beyond recognition. Investigators later discovered that the victim’s hands and legs had been tied with a wire, raising suspicions of foul play.

The vehicle in question is a silver Toyota Corolla but police are yet to confirm the owner’s identity.

The body has since been taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary for a postmortem examination and possible identification. Meanwhile, a docket of case has been opened, and police say they are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Zambia Police Service has called on members of the public with any information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.
