In what can only be described as a medical miracle, the team at Lewanika General Hospital has pulled off a high-risk delivery that had both lives—mother and baby—hanging by a thread.

The scene: a pregnant woman with multiple massive fibroids, a breech baby, and no safe path for a normal operation.

The challenge:

A 10×8cm fibroid blocked the usual incision site.

An 8×7cm submucosal fibroid complicated access.

More fibroids lined both corners of the uterus.

Standard medical procedures? Thrown out the window. This was a situation that called for boldness, precision, and teamwork under pressure.

With the baby’s life in jeopardy, the surgical team made a split-second, high-stakes decision: a rare T-shaped incision above the navel. This isn’t just uncommon—it’s risky, and it’s reserved for moments when everything is on the line.

The result?

A breech baby, born through meconium-stained fluid, with initial APGAR scores of 5/10 and 8/10.

The baby is now stable in NICU.

The mother, who faced dangerous bleeding from multiple fibroid sites, is recovering well with normal vital signs.

This wasn’t just a delivery—it was a battle for life, fought and won with skill, heart, and unity.

Lewanika General Hospital continues to show that even in the most difficult cases, Western Province has heroes in scrubs.

This is not just healthcare—this is hope in action.
