Lusaka- Zambia is set to deploy its 11th battalion to the Central African Republic as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele, highlighted the country’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting civilians, especially women and children.

Lt. General Zyeele said the pre-deployment training for the 11th battalion will take place at the Kenneth Kaunda Peace Training Centre.

He noted that Zambia has already deployed 10 battalions to the Central African Republic, making a significant impact in maintaining peace and stability.

He also stated that the United Nations has expressed gratitude for Zambia’s contributions to peacekeeping efforts.

Lt. General Zyeele further mentioned that Zambia has appointed its first-ever Force Commander under the United Nations, Lieutenant General Humphrey Nyone, who currently leads the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Meanwhile, Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Maambo Haamaundu noted that President Hakainde Hichilema has tasked the Zambia Army with contributing to the national economy, with notable progress being recorded in education and health.

The Zambia Army’s involvement in peacekeeping missions demonstrates its professionalism and commitment to global peace and stability.
