A 30-year-old civilian from the Zambia National Service based in Chinsali has died along with his 14-year-old passenger after their vehicle overturned in Nakonde.
The accident occurred on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at around 17:20 hours in Buton village along Waitwika gravel road, which branches off from the Mbala-Nakonde road, about 2 kilometers from the junction.
According to police, the vehicle, an unregistered Toyota Vitz was traveling from east to west when it lost control due to excessive speed, careered off the road, and overturned.
The deceased driver has been identified as Sitima Mazimana, who was part of a team working on the Chilonga road project from Kantongo to the palace in Nakonde.
The passenger, Prudence Nachilongo of Waitwika village, sustained severe injuries, including a fractured left leg and cuts on the head.
She was taken to Nakonde District Hospital, where she later died, Mazumanana died on the spot.
The bodies of both Mazumanana and Nachilongo have been deposited to the Nakonde District Hospital mortuary.
Muchinga police commissioner Dennis Moola has confirmed the News.
