FIFA president Gianni Infantino has reaffirmed FIFA’s commitment to the development of Zambian football following a strategic engagement with Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba held in Miami, United States.

Infantino, who previously visited Zambia in June 2024, hailed the country’s enduring passion for football and reiterated the world football governing body’s readiness to work closely with FAZ to advance the local game at all levels.

“Zambia has a great passion for football, which I saw during my visit there last year. Today’s meeting with FAZ President Keith Mweemba was an opportunity for me to reaffirm FIFA’s commitment to continue supporting football development,” Infantino said.

During the engagement, the two leaders held productive discussions on the FIFA Forward Programme, with a shared focus on maximising investment in infrastructure, technical development and grassroots growth across Zambia.

Infantino also commended FAZ for its proactive engagement with the Football For Schools programme, a key FIFA initiative that uses football as a tool to empower children through education and life skills.

“We discussed how FIFA Forward funds can be used to strengthen football in beautiful Zambia,” Infantino added.

“I also thanked President Keith Mweemba for proactively interacting with the Football For Schools programme.”

The FIFA President further extended his best wishes to the Chipolopolo as Zambia continues its qualification campaign for the FIFA World Cup 2026, underscoring the global body’s faith in Zambia’s football potential.

In his remarks, Mweemba expressed gratitude to FIFA for its sustained partnership and support, stating that the Association remains committed to aligning with global best practices in football governance and development.

“We are encouraged by President Infantino’s continued support for Zambian football. These engagements strengthen our resolve to build a solid and inclusive football foundation that serves every corner of our country,” Mweemba said.
