Ministry of Green Economy Permanent Secretary Dr. Douty Chibamba has confirmed that SINO Metals has completed immediate works aimed at preventing further pollution at its mining site.
Dr. Chibamba stated that the measures were implemented in line with recommendations issued by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). He made the remarks after touring the mine earlier today.
ZEMA Acting Director Karen Etondo also confirmed that the company has complied with the agency’s directives.
Meanwhile, SINO Metals Deputy Chief Executive Officer Martin Amukusana said the mining firm has reinforced the tailing dam structure to prevent fluid leakage. He added that seven silt traps have been constructed to prevent erosion and capture solid waste.
