A heartfelt gesture of compassion has brought renewed hope to vulnerable residents of Linda Compound as IK Charitable Trust, in collaboration with Katz Widows & Orphans Empowerment Organisation, extended support through the donation of food items and mobility aids.
The initiative saw the distribution of 51 packs of essential goods, including mealie meal, rice, cooking oil and blankets, alongside wheelchairs and other mobility support equipment aimed at improving the lives of persons facing physical challenges.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, IK Charitable Trust Administration Manager Mr. Mohammed Lambat said the organisation’s work is deeply rooted in faith and service to humanity, who emphasized care for widows, the poor, and the vulnerable.
He explained that since 2016, the Trust has remained committed to supporting those in need, with a focus on food security and mobility assistance, stressing that true faith is demonstrated through acts of service. The ceremony attracted Kanyama Member of Parliament Mr. Monty Chinkuli, who graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
Mr. Chinkuli commended IK Charitable Trust for complementing government efforts in community development, stating that such initiatives align with government policy and demonstrate the importance of collaboration between government, the private sector and civil society in fostering sustainable development.
He also expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for creating an enabling environment that allows organisations and private institutions to thrive and support vulnerable communities.
Mr. Chinkuli noted that the donated items, particularly mobility aids, are essential in improving the quality of life for differently abled individuals, adding that no one should be left behind in national development.
Meanwhile, Katz Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation Chairperson Mr. Josias Jere said the organisation exists to bridge the gap between those in need and those willing to help, expressing joy that the partnership had brought relief to many families in Linda Compound.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Tick Muyanda of Chikupi Area, described the gesture as a rare privilege, saying such support has not been experienced in a long time. He noted that many residents in the area are often left out of development and similar interventions.
Another beneficiary, Ms. Juliana Banda, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support, stating that the assistance would not only improve mobility for recipients but also serve as motivation knowing that people care about their wellbeing. She appealed for continued support to reach more individuals facing similar challenges.
Mr. Lambat further reiterated that the organisation’s charitable work is inspired by Islamic teachings rooted in the Holy Qur’an, emphasizing the importance of giving and supporting the vulnerable before it is too late.
The two organisations described the initiative as more than just a donation, saying the gesture was about humility towards humanity and not politics.
They called on more stakeholders and well-wishers to embrace the spirit of giving, noting that such moments of compassion can leave a lasting impact on communities and restore hope among vulnerable citizens.
