Fire has swept through 3 make-shift restaurants and an electronics shop at New Soweto market in Lusaka.

This happened around 03 hours today, but the fire brigade managed to put the fire out before it could spread.

Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi has confirmed the incident, saying the fire affected the section of the market opposite Namununga School.

Mr Chilabi has explained that security personnel observed smoke and flames emanating from one of the makeshift restaurants and immediately alerted the police.

He has stated that officers were dispatched to the scene together with the Lusaka City Council Fire Brigade, and they managed to extinguish the fire around 04:30 hours.

Mr Chilabi says no injuries or loss of life have been reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been established.

Investigations have been instituted, and an inquiry file has been opened.
