Mpika Town Council, through its Department of Public Health and Council Police, has confiscated assorted alcoholic beverages from several shops operating in the Central Business District for allegedly selling liquor without valid licenses.

The operation was conducted yesterday by Health Inspector Paul Mutale alongside Council Police officers. The seized alcoholic beverages were reportedly being sold contrary to the Liquor Licensing Act, Chapter 187 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mpika Town Council Public Relations Officer Mushota Mpundu said the local authority remains committed to enforcing the law and ensuring orderly trade in the district.

Mr. Mpundu revealed that the Council will continue carrying out inspections to ensure that all businesses comply with the law. He further urged business owners intending to sell alcoholic beverages to first obtain the required liquor licenses from the Council.

Meanwhile, Health Inspector Paul Mutale warned that the Council would not tolerate illegal trading practices.

Mr. Mutale added that any person or business wishing to sell beer is required to pay the prescribed liquor license fee of K365 before commencing trade.
