Government has reassured that Zambia will not experience load-shedding, citing a number of alternative energy sources that will soon be contributing to the national grid.

Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary for Electricity, Engineer Arnold Simwaba has told Phoenix News that Zambia is close to meeting the presidential directive of generating 1,000 megawatts of solar power, with about 700 megawatts already feeding into the national grid.

Engineer Simwaba said increased contribution from solar and other alternative energy sources is expected to strengthen electricity supply and reduce pressure on the country’s power system.

He added that favourable rains recorded this year have improved the outlook for hydropower generation, helping ease concerns over possible power shortages.

Engineer Simwaba said government remains focused on expanding the energy mix and building resilience in the power sector so that households and businesses can continue to access stable electricity supply.
