Police in Chipata have recovered a motor vehicle that was stolen during an aggravated robbery incident.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba says the recovered vehicle, a red Toyota Vitz registration number ARB 7266ZM, was found abandoned in Nadalisika Compound in the early hours of today around 05:50 hours.
The vehicle had earlier been reported stolen from a 27-year-old woman, Onesta Chulu, who was allegedly attacked by three masked criminals armed with an unknown firearm.
According to police, the incident happened around 17:00 hours on May 20, 2026 in Eastrise Compound, Chipata District.
Mr. Mweemba has told Breeze FM News that the suspects allegedly robbed the victim of three mobile phones, a Lenovo laptop and the Toyota Vitz, all valued at about K157,000.
Police said the recovered vehicle was discovered about 500 metres from Anoya Secondary School with its engine still running but without ignition keys.
Mr. Mweemba says scenes of crime officers later searched and processed the vehicle before it was towed to Chipata Central Police Station for further investigations.
Meanwhile, the Lenovo laptop and the three mobile phones have not yet been recovered.The Eastern Province Police Chief states that investigations into the matter are still ongoing and more updates will be provided as investigations progress.
