Lusaka Central | 20 MAY 2026

Lusaka Central on Wednesday witnessed scenes rarely seen during a parliamentary nomination filing as hundreds of residents flooded the streets to escort Independent Lusaka Central aspiring candidate Dabwitso Zulu to Twin Palm Secondary School, where he successfully filed in his nomination.

From Bauleni to Kabulonga, residents and ordinary citizens joined the growing wave behind Dabwitso, bringing traffic and business in parts of Twin Palm to a near standstill as supporters sang, chanted and walked side by side with the man many are now calling “the people’s candidate.”

What was expected to be an ordinary filing process quickly turned into a strong political statement from the ground.

For years, residents of Lusaka Central have been crying out for leaders who would go beyond empty campaign promises and remain visible even after elections.

Communities have continued to battle challenges such as poor drainage systems, inadequate market shelters, bad roads in some areas, insecurity and limited empowerment opportunities for youths and women.

Many residents say Dabwitso Zulu has already shown leadership by responding to some of these community concerns long before the campaign season.

The massive turnout today sent one clear message Lusaka Central is rallying behind Dabwitso Zulu, with growing momentum suggesting that the independent candidate is quickly becoming one of the strongest forces in the race for the constituency seat.
