PRESS STATEMENT

June 7, 2026 – The Zambia Police Service wishes to refute false and misleading reports circulating on various social media platforms regarding the transfer of the Officer-in-Charge of Chawama Police Station, Mr. Francis Mulundu, and statements allegedly attributed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Graphel Musamba.

The Service categorically states that the Inspector General of Police has not granted any interview to any media institution or individual concerning the transfer of Mr. Mulundu or recent incidents in Chawama. Consequently, all statements being circulated and attributed to the Inspector General are false, misleading, and should be disregarded.

The Zambia Police Service further clarifies that transfers and postings are routine administrative measures governed by the Terms and Conditions of Service for the Public Service and the Zambia Police Service Standing Orders. Such transfers do not constitute disciplinary action.

The transfer of Mr. Mulundu, together with other senior officers from various police stations within Lusaka Division, forms part of routine personnel rotation arrangements that were already under consideration before the recent violent incident in Chawama Compound. Any attempt to link these administrative transfers to the incident is therefore inaccurate and misleading.

Members of the public are urged to disregard unverified information circulating on social media and to rely only on official statements issued through recognized Zambia Police Service communication channels.

The Zambia Police Service remains committed to professionalism, impartiality, and the maintenance of law and order.
