The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has successfully intercepted two trucks loaded with smuggled alcoholic beverages in Kapiri Mposhi, uncovering a scheme that attempted to defraud the government of over K890,000 in revenue.

The shipments, which included brands such as Konyagi and K-Vant, were discovered after officers grew suspicious of the cargo declarations, which relied on falsified documentation. In a brazen attempt to bypass customs, one driver claimed his vehicle was transporting a haul of groundnuts, cassava, and sweet potatoes originating from Mansa. The second truck attempted to evade detection by presenting expired ZRA receipts.

Following the discovery, the ZRA has seized both the vehicles and the illicit cargo in accordance with the Customs and Excise Act.

The Authority has reiterated its commitment to staying on high alert to curb all forms of smuggling to safeguard national revenue. Importers, exporters, and other stakeholders are being urged to ensure all goods are correctly declared. The ZRA warned that failure to comply with these regulations will lead to the forfeiture of goods and potential criminal prosecution.
