Police in Southern Province have arrested a 28-year-old man for impersonating Southern Province Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA and using his identity to extort money from the public using a fake Facebook page.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, ALFRED NAWA has identified the suspect as TERRY CHILAMBWE of Napsa Complex in Kalulushi District.
He says the suspect between August 2021 and May 2022 opened a Facebook page purporting to be Southern Province Minister, CORNELIUS MWEETWA and used the platform to advertise fake youth empowerment programmes and employment opportunities.
Mr. NAWA has told ZANIS in Choma that Mr. CHILAMBWE would impersonate the Minister and demand from unsuspecting people to transfer unspecified sums of money to his account in exchange of fake employment or empowerment opportunities.
