Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has confiscated over 1000 cases of non-compliant packaged water, valued at over K84,000.
The seizure occurred during a series of market surveillance inspections across various townships in Lusaka from March 13 to 15, 2024.
The operation targeted areas such as Emmasdale, Industrial Area, Chipata, and several other compounds, leading to the withdrawal of products that failed to meet the Zambian Standard ZS 388 for Bottled Drinking Water.
This standard ensures that all bottled water sold in the market is safe for consumption and free from contaminants.
The crackdown comes as part of ZCSA’s ongoing efforts to enforce the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017, which mandates that all products covered by compulsory standards, including bottled water, must be licensed and comply with regulatory requirements before being distributed.
This was contained In a Statement issued by ZCSA head of communication, Brian Hatyoka.
