Residents of Kitwe have started receiving relief food from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU.

Over 5,000 households affected by this year’s drought are each expected to receive a 50 kilogram bag of White Maize.

Some residents in Mongu District, have commended government for remembering the vulnerable amidst the drought through the distribution of relief maize.

MUSHIMBEI NAMAYO a small scale farmer, aged forty five years from Nawinda village, says the current drought has severely affected her family .

She has appealed to the government, to empower farmers with irrigation equipment.

Meanwhile speaking when he flagged off the distribution of relief Maize, Mongu District Commissioner MORGAN AKABESWA, assured people in the district that government is committed to ensure that the hunger situation is managed, with the continued distribution of relief food.
