The Zambia U20 men’s national team will be aiming for their first win at the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Egypt 2025 when they face the hosts this evening at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia.
Kick-off will be at 20h00 CAT.
After opening their Group A campaign with a goalless draw against Sierra Leone, the Junior Chipolopolo currently sit fourth in the group with one point.
Sierra Leone lead the group with four points after defeating Egypt 4-1 in their second outing, while Egypt and South Africa are tied on three points each. Tanzania remain bottom without a point.
Group A remains the most competitive of the tournament’s four groups, featuring five teams in a tightly contested race for quarterfinal qualification in this 17th edition of the U20 AFCON, which comprises 13 participating nations.
With two matches left against Tanzania on May 6 and regional rivals South Africa on May 9, Zambia must secure a win tonight to boost their qualification hopes and avoid the psychological burden of playing catch-up.
Coach Boyd Mulwanda and his technical team oversaw final preparations at the Tolip Annex 1 Training Complex, with confidence running high in the camp.
A win over Egypt could mark a turning point in Zambia’s campaign and position the Junior Chipolopolo strongly ahead of the final two group clashes.
