A fatal road traffic accident along the Great North Road about 3 kilometres south of Chikankata District has left a woman dead while three others sustained severe injuries and are receiving medical attention.
The incident, which happened on 19th June 2025 around 17:00 hours, has been attributed to excessive speeding, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, veer off the road, and overturn.
The accident involved 28-year-old Raphael Kavwemya of John Laing Compound in Lusaka, who was driving a north-bound Toyota Wish motor vehicle.
Confirming the development, Southern Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka says the driver escaped unhurt, while the deceased woman, who is yet to be identified, sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
Daka notes that her remains are deposited at Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting identification and post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the other three unidentified passengers were taken to Kafue General Hospital, where they are admitted and receiving treatment.
