August 31, 2025 The House of Chiefs has welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to increase allowances for Chiefs and their retainers.
House of Chiefs Chairperson, Chief Choongo, said the increment is timely as subsidies for Chiefs and their retainers have remained stagnant for many years.
He explained that the move is a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to uplifting the welfare of traditional leadership.
Chief Choongo also thanked the Government for distributing motorbikes to all chiefdoms and for the ongoing construction of Chiefs’ palaces.
He further praised President Hichilema for his consistent support of traditional ceremonies through his attendance at various cultural events across the country.The traditional leader urged Zambians to continue supporting traditional ceremonies, stressing that they foster unity and promote cultural exchange.
