After four months of rigorous training, 202 young men and women have graduated as professional firefighters from the National Fire Service Training School in Kabwe.
Their journey, which began in May 2025, was marked by discipline, endurance and sacrifice, culminating in today’s colourful pass-out parade graced by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Honourable Gift Sialubalo, MP.
The Minister praised Intake 70 for their resilience and perseverance, noting that firefighting is not just a career but a calling to serve humanity.
“You are henceforth commissioned to go and serve our people and safeguard their properties too from the threats of fire and other calamities. Carry your new qualifications with pride and dignity,” he said.
Hon. Sialubalo reminded the graduands that their role goes beyond extinguishing fires, stressing their importance in addressing the effects of climate change through fire prevention in sensitive areas such as the Kafue Flats.
He said the nation looks up to them to be on the frontline in protecting both communities and natural habitats.
The Minister also commended the instructional staff for successfully preparing the graduates despite challenges, assuring that government is working to improve training facilities and expand capacity through public-private partnerships.
“We have seen the evidence of your hard work as a school. Keep it up,” he said, promising that government would address the accommodation shortage and build a modern fire academy of international standard.
The event drew dignitaries from government, local authorities, unions and international partners, including the Chief Fire Officer from Lilongwe City, Malawi.
Beaming with pride, the graduates marched off the parade ground ready to take up their duties as guardians of life, property and the environment.
