A 67-year-old woman and her 29-year-old daughter have been murdèred by unknown people in Chief Waitwika’s Chiefdom in Nakonde District of Muchinga Province under unclear circumstances.
Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer, Dennis Moola, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred between October 3, 2025, around 07:00 hours, and October 4, 2025, around 14:00 hours, in Mafwa village.
Mr. Moola says Wilson Silwimba, aged 72, reported to the police that his wife, Rosemary Nalungwe, and his daughter Roydah Nalwimba, were murdèred by unknown people.
He says on October 3, 2025, around 07:00 hours, Rosemary Nalungwe and her daughter went out to the field for bush clearing in readiness for the 2025/2026 farming season.
However, the two never returned home that day, which prompted community members on October 4, 2025, to organize a search until around 14:00 hours when the two bodies were found lying dead in the bush.
He says the body of the mother was found in the bush near the village, and it was lying down in a pool of blood, facing downwards, and was covered with a blanket.
Mr. Moola says the mother also had a deep open cut on the right side of the neck and a broken left arm.
He says the daughter was found about 50 meters away from the mother’s body with two deep open cuts, one on the left side of the neck and the other on the back side of the neck.
Mr. Moola says all the wounds are suspected to have been caused by a sharp instrument, more preferably an axe.
The two bodies have been deposited into Nakonde Urban Clinic Mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination.
Mr. Moola says no arrest has been made.
He says a docket has been opened, and investigations into the matter have been instituted.
