The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has announced that it has unanimously resolved to hold a General Conference to elect a new party President and leadership within the month of November 2025.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka on Monday, November 3, 2025, Lundazi Member of Parliament and Acting PF Secretary General Brenda Nyirenda said the Central Committee has opened a seven-day window for fresh applications from individuals aspiring to contest the party presidency.

According to Ms. Nyirenda, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of K200,000 for male candidates, while female applicants, youths, and persons with disabilities will each pay K100,000.

Meanwhile, the party has blamed the government for the delay in burying late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, describing it as a failure of leadership by the UPND administration.

Ms. Nyirenda said it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that a former Head of State is accorded a dignified burial.
