Senior Chief Kambombo of the Senga People in Chama District has called for increased traditional leadership exchanges between Malawi and Zambia, saying such interactions are key to fostering mutual relations and promoting development among chiefdoms.
Speaking during the Wabulambya Cultural Festival held in Chitipa District of Malawi, Senior Chief Kambombo said traditional leaders play an important role in strengthening unity and sharing ideas that can benefit their people.
He emphasized that the cordial relationship between Malawi and Zambia should be complemented by traditional leaders’ efforts to collaborate on matters of culture, development, and peacebuilding.
“Our two nations have a long history of friendship. As traditional leaders, we must build on this foundation by visiting each other and learning new ways of developing our communities,” said Senior Chief Kambombo.
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Wabulambya expressed gratitude to Senior Chief Kambombo for attending the ceremony, saying his presence symbolized the strong bond that exists between the two neighboring countries.
“We are grateful to have our brothers from Zambia join us. Such visits strengthen cultural ties and remind us that borders should not divide people who share the same heritage,” said Senior Chief Wabulambya.
Among the Zambian chiefs who attended the ceremony were Chief Chifungwe, Chief Katyetye, and representatives of Chief Mweniwisi.
The Wabulambya Cultural Festival celebrates the rich Lambya heritage, promoting unity, cultural preservation, and collaboration between traditional leaders in the region.
