My trip to Copperbelt was eventful. But my highlight was getting into a yango driven by youngman who is a medical doctor.”Aaaaah it’s you sir…” he excitedly churned when I got into his little taxi.

He immediately started the conversation on t0bàcc0 farming.

“Do you think next year the marketing season of t0bàcc0 will be better?” He asked me as he explained the different challenges of t0bàcc0.

“Are you are t0bàcc0 farmer?” I inquisitively asked.

“No. But my father is…” he answered. He narrated how his father – farmer in Chipangali area of Chipata – managed to buy for school fees of over 10 children from t0bàcc0.

The youngman, born and bred in Chipata, left for Kitwe eight years ago to study medicine at Copperbelt University (CBU). He had earned himself award of top scorer in academics at Anoya Zulu High School and Chizongwe High School of Chipata.

“I never looked back. After I graduated, I decided to remain here and look for a job,” he said.

He is now yango driving while fighting for any chance to get into government employment as a doctor.

“It is tough. I wish I can get into the army,” he said.

His focus is to do postgraduate study in “Ophthalmology” as way of honouring his mother in the village who has sight problems.

“I want to contribute to society by fixing their sights,” he said.

For now, he is raising money to payoff the taxi so that he can own it away from his friend.

If you have way of helping this youngster to get into employment in government hospitals, inbox me. He needs to be in the wards and not roads. Meanwhile, we will make phone calls for him.

Anyway, we need to adjust our governance system. You cannot have medical doctors driving taxis while hospitals in rural areas lack medical doctors. There is just a disconnect!
