At least 250 houses in Lundazi District, Eastern Province, have collapsed, while several others are submerged following severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

This is according to an assessment report compiled by the District Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU.

The report further indicates that Lundazi Dam has collapsed, along with Mphamba Bridge, Nthitimila Bridge and the embankment of Mwase Dam.

Member of Parliament BRENDA NYIRENDA and District Commissioner MAJORY BANDA have confirmed the disaster in separate interviews.

Ms. NYIRENDA told ZNBC News that flooding has cut off the district from surrounding areas, creating an urgent situation that requires immediate intervention.

Meanwhile, Ms. BANDA said several crop fields have been washed away by the floods.
