The government has released K296, 000 to support the rehabilitation of key infrastructure at Chama Boarding Secondary School.
The School Headteacher, Mabvuto Banda says the funds are designated to repair infrastructure, including the school dormitory, perimeter wall fence and a staff house that was damaged during last year’s rainy season.
Mr Banda has expressed gratitude to the government for the timely intervention, noting that the damaged infrastructure negatively affected both pupils and staff at the institution.
He updated that rehabilitation works have commenced.
“The completion of these works will allow the School to focus on academic excellence,” he said.
And Chama District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Quabaniso Ndhlovu said the funds released are part of government’s emergency response package, aimed at restoring safe learning environments and minimizing disruption to the academic calendar.
“Our priority is to ensure that learners have a secure place to study and teachers have the facilities they need to deliver quality education,” he stated.
Mr Ndhlovu added that contractors have been instructed to use material that will stand the test of time, and also adhere to strict timelines to avoid further delays,” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, Chama North Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Yotam Mtayachalo commended government for responding to the plight of the school.
He adds that the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) alone cannot manage to solve all the problems in the Constituency.
The Parliamentarian expressed confidence that the school management will put the money to prudent utilisation .
