A 42-YEAR-OLD man in Mansa District has been rescued alive after a pit latrine collapsed on him while he was answering the call of nature.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 13:53 hours.

The victim, identified as Paul Kunda, of Chitakwa village, is believed to have fallen into a pit latrine measuring about 1.5mx1m and more than four metres deep.

Mansa Municipal Council public relations officer Norman Kashi said the pit latrine collapsed, burying the victim under more than half a tonne of burnt bricks and loose soil mixed with toilet contents.

“A 42-year-old man has been retrieved alive by the council fire brigade team after a pit latrine collapsed on him while answering the call of nature,” Mr Kashi said.

He explained that the incident was reported by an eyewitness, Ruth Mwape, who quickly contacted the fire brigade team.

Mr Kashi said the rescue team managed to retrieve Mr Kunda, who sustained minor injuries but was found in a stable condition.

The victim was taken to Senama Level One Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care.
