POLICE in Chongwe District have arrested a man, while his wife remains on the run, after the couple allegedly fell on their 14-month-old baby during a domestic fight, leading to the child’s death.
The infant was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.
Zambia Police Service spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the incident occurred around 21:00 hours on January 6 in Kakubo Village.
Mr Chilabi identified the suspects as Manase Njobvu and her husband, Abby Nkhomeshya, who had been separated for about four months.
“The couple had been living apart, with the husband having moved out and leaving the child in the care of the mother,” he said.
He explained that on the day of the incident, Njobvu went to her husband’s house and found another woman inside when she opened the door.
At the time, Nkhomeshya was not at home.
“Neighbours later informed Nkhomeshya of the situation, prompting him to rush back home,” Mr Chilabi said.
