The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Livingstone Base came to the rescue of an expectant mother after flooding along the Maramba–Libuyu Bridge made road travel impossible.

On Tuesday, 13 January 2026, heavy flooding submerged the Maramba River, leaving the bridge impassable.

Dr. Sumbwe Adidja, Livingstone District Health Director, requested air transport for 20-year-old Ms. Pamela Banda after an ambulance could not reach Libuyu Township.

Acting Station Commander Col MIYANDA CHIMUKA quickly deployed a team, with Senior Pilot Col CEASAR KANYANGA and aircraft technician Cpl LUNGU PAUL conducting a successful medical evacuation.

The helicopter landed safely at Libuyu Police Station, and Ms. Banda was flown to ZAF Livingstone Base before being transported by ambulance to Livingstone General Hospital for further care.

Dr. ADIDJA thanked the ZAF team and Air Force Command for the swift response, saying such interventions are crucial for saving lives during emergencies.
