The expectant mother who was recently airlifted from flood-hit Libuyu Township jn Livingstone by a Zambia Air Force -ZAF’ helicopter has successfully delivered twins, hospital authorities have confirmed.

Ms. PAMELA BANDA, aged 20, was evacuated on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, after flooding of the Maramba River submerged the Maramba–Libuyu Bridge, cutting off road access and preventing an ambulance from reaching her.

The Zambia Air Force Livingstone Base swiftly responded to a Medical Evacuation request from the Livingstone District Health Office and transported her to safety.

Following the airlift to ZAF Livingstone Base, Ms. BANDA was transferred by ambulance to Livingstone University Teaching Hospital, where she later delivered healthy twins under medical supervision.

Health officials have described the outcome as a success story that highlights the importance of rapid emergency response during natural disasters.

The timely intervention by the Zambia Air Force is credited with ensuring the safety of both the mother and her newborns.

And The ZAF has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian assistance and emergency medical evacuations, particularly in areas rendered inaccessible by floods, in line with its motto, “Defend and Support.”
