A suspected murder-su!cide case has shocked residents of Ibex Compound in Katete District after a man and a woman who were reportedly heard praying loudly together were both later found dead in the same house.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident and said the matter occurred between the night of May 6 and the afternoon of May 7, 2026.
Mr. Mweemba said 26-year-old Enerst Sakala, who lived alone in a two-roomed semi-detached house, was heard praying loudly together with a female companion from around 19:00 hours until about 23:00 hours on Wednesday.
He said concern arose the following day when Sakala’s aunt, Florence Daka, went to check on him after noticing that the house remained locked from inside.
Mr. Mweemba said Ms. Daka peeped through the window and discovered Sakala h@nging from the roof of his bedroom using a bedsheet.
He said the matter was later reported to Katete Police Station.
Mr. Mweemba explained that police officers who forced entry into the house also discovered the body of an unidentified woman lying dead in the sitting room with multiple cuts to the head and body.
The two bodies have since been taken to St. Francis Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem examinations.
Police have since launched investigations into the matter.
