The playing turf at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka has been infested by army worms.
Sports Minister, Elvis Nkandu has confirmed, stating that the infestation has prompted immediate intervention from specialists.
Nkandu has explained that specialists from South Africa have been engaged to assess the damage and provide a possible solution.
He has added that the infestation has now slowed down the ongoing rehabilitation works at the stadium.
Nkandu has said once the turf is fully maintained, work will proceed on other upgrades.
And Sporturf Project Manager, Maurice Van Nierneck says the turf has been fumigated and the grass is expected to recover and start growing again.
