The Non-Governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has expressed concern over the increasing number of babies being dumped across the country, with most cases involving young mothers.

Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, NGOCC Executive Director Anne Anamela described the incidents as heartbreaking and unacceptable, stressing that every child has the fundamental right to life, protection, and dignity.

Mrs. Anamela said society must also seek to understand the circumstances pushing some young women into such desperate actions, noting that many act out of fear, hopelessness, isolation, and lack of support systems.

She said the issue should not only be viewed as a moral concern, but also as a human rights matter affecting both the child and the young mother involved.

Mrs. Anamela further emphasized the need for a balanced and compassionate approach that ensures the protection of children while providing support to vulnerable girls and young women.
