The Anti-Corruption Commission–ACC- says it has received with keen interest revelations by the recent Auditor General’s Report conducted on the government payroll for the years ended December 31st 2017 to December 31st 2021.

ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono says the commission is currently studying the findings contained in the report, to identify matters that require attention that fall within the it’s mandate.

Mr. Moono says once the analysis is completed, the commission will inform the nation on the course of action to be taken on the matters that will be identified.

Meanwhile, action aid Zambia says the revealed irregularities are extremely high for a country struggling to end poverty among its citizens.

Organization Country Director Nalucha Ziba says it is sad that nineteen ministries are suspected to be involved in activities related to abuse of office and mismanagement of public resources adding that it is even sadder because this happened during the same period that various governance sectors received inadequate funding from the government.

Mrs Ziba, who has wondered if the Public Accounts Committee–PAC- has been doing its oversight role effectively, has since recommended that government should ensure strong systems are put in place to effectively administer the payroll to rid it of ghost workers.

The Auditor General’s recent report on the government payroll for the said period has revealed accounting related irregularities in amounts totaling over K2.6 billion.
