Resident Of Mpatamato Section 23 Township in Luanshya District are living in fear that prolonged blockage of a sewer system that discharges faecal matter may again cause an outbreak of diseases.
One of the affected residents Memory Mambwe has told Diamond News the unsanitary conditions continue to pose a risk on their source of water and she worries the rain season may worsen the problem.
Ms. Mambwe has expressed disappointment that authorities have, lamentably, taken years to fix the recurring problem that begun about 10 years ago.
She adds that experts from Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company know about the collapse of the sewer system that she says must be expeditiously dealt with to restore hygiene in her community.
Reacting to the residents’ outcry, the water utility firm’s Public Relations Manager Micheck Moyo says there is an ongoing project of replacing dilapidated sewer lines that will soon address concerns raised by Mpatamato residents.
The huge Township is home of former miners of the defunct Roan Antelope Mining Corporation (RAMCOZ) but the community hardly bears the glory of a once thriving copper mining town. Diamond TV
