Police in Kafue recieved a report of a shooting incident in which one person was shot dead while another escaped with gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred on January 5, 2023 around 01:00 hours at the ZESCO Kafue West Switch yard in Kafue District.
Police visited the scene of crime and the body of the deceased was found lying outside the swtch yard.
The body which which was later identified as that of Lucky Ndinda was deposited in Kafue District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police initial investigations revealed that Zambia National Service officers manning the ZESCO Switch yard in Kafue District shot the suspects who were attempting to steal the supporter of the isolator.
On January 5, 2023 Police received information from the members of public to the effect that they had seen one person with gunshot wounds who they identified as Ignitious Simfukwe aged 25 of unknown house number in Soloboni compound of Kafue District.
Acting on the same information, Police rushed to the his house where he was apprehended from.
The suspect, during interrogations revealed that he was with his friends during the attempted theft at ZESCO Kafue west switch yard premises.
The suspect identified his deceased colleague as Lucky Ndinda aged 27 also of Soloboni compound in Kafue.
He later led the Police to another suspect, a Juvenile aged 12 who was also apprehended by Police officers.
The suspect with gunshot wounds was taken to Kafue District Hospital where he is receiving treatment while other suspect is detained in Police custody.
