Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has called on world leaders to fully support Ukraine’s freedom and democracy against that country’s invasion by Russia.

And Liberia’s Foreign minister Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah has said the recently held democracy summit would not be complete without speaking about attacks on Ukraine.

Mr Kristersson has said all national leaders should be committed to helping Ukraine to reform and reconstruct in the coming years in which democracy and human rights will be central components.

He was speaking during a virtual plenary session on making democratic institutions stronger chaired by President Hakainde Hichilema during the second summit for democracy that Zambia co-hosted with four other countries last week.

He said in Ukraine and everywhere, strong and independent democratic institutions are the best insurance for regional and global peace and security.

He added that Ukraine needs military, political, financial and humanitarian support for democracy to be realized in that country.

And Mr Kemayah, who spoke during the summit, said democracy is under attack in Ukraine.

He said the Summit for Democracy co-hosted by four countries would not be complete without attendees not speaking openly about the attacks on Ukraine.

Mr Kemayah said Ukraine will regain its freedom and democracy once leaders put their efforts together in ending Russia’s invasion.
