Three people have died on the spot while four others sustained injuries after a fuel tanker collided with a Toyota Hiace in Chongwe District.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the driver of the Toyota Hiace and two of his female passengers sustained injuries and died on the spot.
“Chongwe police recorded a Fatal Road Traffic Accident which occurred on today at 11:00 hours in Mpango area off Great East road in Chongwe district.
Involved was M/Ali Sugule aged 33 of Emmasdale who was driving a Tanker truck registration Number BCC 8694ZM and trailer BCB 2237ZM from East to West loaded with diesel,” Mr Hamoonga stated.
He stated that the truck overturned and diesel spilled off.
Mr Hamoonga named the Toyota Hiace driver as Fed Tembo aged 30 of Chongwe who was driving a Toyota Hiace bus Registration number BAP 7008ZM from West to East.
He stated that the Toyota Hiace was extensively damaged due to the impact.
“The driver of the minibus and his two female adult passengers sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot while three other passengers namely: Lyson Tembo aged 21, Victor Msidi aged 22 ,Nicolas Mulima aged 23 and the driver of the truck sustained serious injuries.All are receiving treatment at Chongwe hospital,” Mr Hamoonga stated.
He stated that the accident occurred when the truck driver failed to keep to his near side and collided head on with the oncoming Public Service Vehicle a Toyota Hiace bus.
