(ZNBC) A Scientist at the HIV and AIDS Africa Health Research Institute in Durban, South Africa says sub Saharan Africa scientists should team up in order to find the cure for HIV – the virus that causes AIDS.
Professor Thumbi Ngung’u who is also a Deputy Director and a Max Planck Research Group of HIV and AIDS researchers says sub Saharan countries should not wait for the western world to find the cure for the virus.
Professor Ngung’u says Sub-Saharan countries have the necessary equipment which can be used to conduct tests in order to find the cure for HIV.
He says already a number of trials have been conducted in South Africa at HIV and AIDS Africa Health Research Institute in Durban.
The professor says some tests conducted so far are promising, adding that someday the cure for HIV will be found.
Professor Ngung’u was speaking via zoom from South Africa when he addressed stakeholders in Kitwe during a workshop organised by the network of Zambian People Living with HIV and AIDS.
And Ministry of Health Director Infectious Disease, Professor Lloyd Mulenga said the Ministry of health is doing everything possible to ensure that less cases of HIV infections are recorded through various interventions.
Professor Mulenga also thanked the team from the network of Zambian people living with HIV and AIDS for organising the workshop.
