In Lusaka, police have shot and killed four suspected armed criminals, one of whom was a 44-year-old former Police Reserve officer identified as Felix Mwanja from Makeni Villa.

The suspects were intercepted by police around 01:00 hours along 70-70 Road in the Kanyama compound area while using a Toyota IST with registration number AIC 3824, which was covered in mud. The suspects fired at the police, prompting officers to return fire. All four suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were taken to the University Teaching Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

A shotgun with five rounds of ammunition and other offensive weapons were recovered at the scene, and the vehicle has been impounded for further investigation.

The incident follows a report from May 31, 2024, at around 15:00 hours, where armed criminals attacked a shop owner in Lusaka’s Mungule area. The same suspects, armed with a shotgun and other weapons, are also alleged to have attacked another shop owner in the Garden compound, stealing money and groceries.

Additionally, the gang is suspected of robbing a 22-year-old Indian national in Makeni Villa of K47,000 on September 21, 2023, at around 16:00 hours along Castle Road in Makeni.

The bodies are currently in the mortuary awaiting formal identification, postmortem, and burial. Investigations are ongoing.
