The Zambia National Service (ZNS) impounded more than 600 bags of mealie meal suspected to be obtained through smuggling.

According to a live broadcast on the Pentagon Zambia page, yesterday, Thursday, 23rd January, 2025 during a routine patrol by the ZNS task force led by Maj Chinyimba Mubanga and Copperbelt Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr Daniel Kamenga, in Bwanamukumbwa area in Ndola, Copperbelt Province, the team impouded mealiemeal which was stored in various shops allegedly waiting to be smuggled into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The operation is part of the ongoing efforts aimed at curbing mealie meal smuggle activities in the Province.

And on January 22nd, the anti smuggling team was allegedly attacked in the same area after trying to recover bags of mealie meal in one of the shops destined for illegal trade.

However, the task force team managed to get over 100 bags after spending a night outside strategizing on how best they could recover the bags from the people of Bwanamukumbwa.

Meanwhile, acting on intelligence, a woman of Ndeke compound suspected to be a Congolese national was apprehended after being found with more than 200 bags of mealie meal alleged to be for smuggling.

ZNS has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no mealiemeal is smuggled and offenders are brought to book.
