The Lusaka City Council has seized 350 live chickens from a residential area in Libala South, Water Works.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Nyambe Bulumba said that the seizure was subject to the owner’s failure to comply with public health guidelines, which prohibit the rearing of chickens in residential areas.

According to Bulumba, the chicken run structure had been causing flies, odor, and nuisance, contravening Section 67 of the Public Health Act Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia.

He added that the owner’s poor waste management practices, including the construction of an illegal drain and pit, were in violation of the Solid Waste Management Act No. 20 of 2018.

My Bulumba also revealed that the owner was warned prior to the seizure but they could not do as instructed.

He has since warned members of the public who might be conducting such actions to stop, before the law visits them.
